Mappilas

Mappilas
The present-day Mappilas (or Malabar) Muslims are de-scendants of Arab settlers who were welcomed as traders by local rulers. Ibn Battuta records the presence of a large Muslim popula-tion in Malabar during the 14th century, suggesting that by then the Mappila settlement had become quite noticeable.
